Filter Changes Are Important

Dirty Filter

The filter in your HVAC system is one of the most important things in your entire system. The motors and coils are equally as important. When a the filter isn’t changed out regularly, it becomes over saturated with dirt, debris and various other particles. Since air is still trying to move past that filter, it begins bringing little bits of those particulates into other parts of your system. When this continually happens, your motors and coils begin collecting this gunk. The more gunk, the more difficult each components job becomes. This leads to faster wear and tear on your system which ultimately leads to your system having a much shorter life than it would otherwise.

The Lungs of Your Home

Think of your HVAC system like the lungs of your home. The more regularly you change your filter, the cleaner your HVAC system will remain. This means cleaner air for you and your family to breathe too! The more particles that are removed by the air filter, the less particles you breathe. This is incredibly helpful to those with allergies, asthma and other respiratory related issues.

Another added bonus to changing your air filter regularly is that you won’t have as much dust to clean out of your house. I know I prefer the need for cleaning to be less! If you have a duct cleaning performed every 3 to 5 years, you’ll enjoy that benefit even more. Regular duct cleanings also help retain the longevity of your HVAC system as a whole.

Filter Choices

There are many different types of filters on the market. You want a pleated air filter with a high MERV rating. HEPA filters are great but unfortunately most of the time they cut down on airflow, which is not good for your HVAC system. Your MERV rating should be between 14 and 16. This will trap the most particles while keeping the airflow moving properly.
