You may or may have not heard about geothermal heating and the fact that it’s less intrusive on our environment. The efficiency of thermal systems is high due to the fact that no energy conversion is required.
Geothermal energy starts by using the natural heat that the earth retains. It’s also made up of radioactive decay from minerals and solar energy absorbed at the Earth’s surface. High temperature geothermal heat is typically collected close to tectonic plate boundaries.
So is it worth the money? That greatly depends on the situation. Currently for residential, not really. The cost of install is about $25,000. In a commercial situation or multi family residence, it would definitely be worth it. Since a commercial application has extremely high heating and cooling operating costs, the investment will pay for itself a lot quicker. For a residential application, we recommend upgrading your heating system to a more efficient one and add insulation to your home if you’re looking for savings on your operating costs.
